Karin Potter graduated as a biologist in 1987 at the UNISINOS / Brazil. During the graduation, she studied native orchids from the south of Brazil at the Botanical Garden – FZB/RS. After completed graduation, worked for 34 years with urban planning – main emphasis: analysis of urban projects and city master plans of the cities of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. In 2016 she held a master’s degree in Urbanism at UFRGS, RS, Brazil. In 2019 she began a PhD in Urbanism at the Lisbon University, Lisbon, Portugal. The research’s theme is “Biodiversity, quality of public spaces and urban stream restoration – evaluating public policies through indicators.”

Writing Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It particularly focuses on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities.
