Angela Mensing-de Jong is Professor for Urban Design at the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Dresden. Her focus in education and research lies on the design, development and redevelopment of complex urban systems on a wide range of scales while taking into consideration their technical, ecological, economic and sociocultural conditions. Themes include regionally varied demographic and economic developments, the change in living and working conditions as well as infrastructural innovation and criteria for sustainable development. Writing Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It particularly focuses on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities.
