Charis Nika is a practicing architect and researcher. She is currently working on her PhD in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cyprus. She has completed master studies at TU Delft and bachelor studies at Cardiff University. She has worked in architectural firms in Rotterdam, London and Cardiff. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, Netherlands and Germany and, more recently, in the Biennale of Architecture in Venice (2021). Charis is interested in the social, political and experiential aspects of architecture and urbanism. Her current research explores the conflicting urban narratives in contested areas in Cyprus and the methods through which these narratives can be collected, analyzed and shared. Writing Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It particularly focuses on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities.
