Sylvie Nguyen is a Doctoral Assistant at the Laboratory of Urbanism, the doctoral program of Architecture and Sciences of the City (EDAR), in the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). She has a background in teaching urban design studios and lecture courses in urban design, and professional practice experience in urban design, architecture, landscape and regional planning. Her area research regards the Vietnam Mekong Delta, with focus in water systems and ecosystems within the built urban-rural territories, addressing the environmental crisis in agrarian landscapes due to the impact of climate change and infrastructural land alterations. Writing Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It particularly focuses on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities.
