Thomas Northoff, lives as a writer and graffiti researcher in Vienna. PhD in European Ethnology. Since 1983 establishment of the Austrian graffiti archive for literature, art and research. Focus on urban research, youth cultures, racism and anti-racism, marginalized groups, historical comparisons. Teaching at the UNI Vienna, lectures in Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. With his symposia during the early 1990s and other events, he put graffiti research on a broader scientific basis. Writing Urban Places proposes an innovative investigation and implementation of a process for developing human understanding of communities, their society, and their situatedness, by narrative methods. It particularly focuses on the potential of narrative methods for urban development in European medium-sized cities.
