Book Launch of Special Issue of Writingplace in Tampere

Welcome to the book launch event focusing on creative methods to work with the narratives of the grassroots in the city!

6-8 p.m. May 3 // Kulttuuritalo Telakka (second floor) // Tullikamarinaukio 3, Tampere, Finland

In the event, we will launch the book/Special Issue of Writingplace journal, Writing Urban Places: New Narratives for the European City, which collects together work done in the COST Action Writing Urban Places over the last four years. Action Chair, prof. Klaske Havik from Delft University will introduce the book, after which we will take a closer look at three chapters that have a special connection to the local context in Tampere, as well as to future collaborations. Dalia Milián Bernal guides us into the section of methods explored and developed during the Action (see also Repository). Elina Alatalo will share the chapter written based on the Hiedanranta workshop summer of 2022, where the focus was on co-constructing narratives of the local grassroots. We will see a short film that captures one of the methods developed in Hiedanranta, while it also introduces our second international guest Dorina Pllumbi, also from Delft University. Dorina in turn will share on the Tirana training school, also presented in the book, together with our third guest, Diana Malaj from the University of Graz. The Tirana training school dealt with film as a method of investigating urban places, which will lead us to see two more short films sharing stories on the planned, unplanned and everything in between.

As an orientation towards the future, we will also launch a call for abstracts for a book edited by Dalia Milián Bernal, Dorina Pllumbi and Elina Alatalo on the theme of spatial narratives of resistance.

We look forward to vivid and inspiring discussions!

Our event is free of charge, but after the event, there will be music downstairs (15 e): 20.45 Johanna Debreczeni, 22.00 Tango Revolution.

The event is organized by Insurgent Spatial Practices, in collaboration with COST Action Writing Urban Places and supported by STUE (Sustainable Transformation of Urban Environments).
